REALLY PEOPLE?

(via la times)

Okay so I stay a few blocks away from the Staples Center. I wanted to get some groceries for this week since “Mi osito” was getting back home from work travel around 2am. Lakers win the finals and people start acting crazy. Really people?

Here’s some of my photos on my way to Ralph’s. Streets were closed off. Ghetto bird in full effect. A chorus of celebratory gunshots, screams, sirens, windows breaking, trash cans being flung onto the street and car horns.

I called Ralph’s and they said they will not re-open until tomorrow morning.

WACK!

REAL HIP HOP: Ghostface Killah’s new joint “Forever”

ghostface-killah-1

Ghostface Killah!!! Man! One of my all time favorite MCs. His joints are magical. “Supreme Clientele” is one of my top 10 albums of all time. When I got my first brand new car  how did I break it in? By playing “Supreme Clientele”,  in it full blast mode. When I’m nervous lervous and have to get into my super duper grimey hustler mode,  say like when I was the only non-graffiti artist in the “I AM LEGEND” live art battle @ Crewest, I created a playlist to listen to for the 5 hours we had to complete the piece and you bet it was nothing but Ghostdini.

He’s coming out with a new album soon and here’s one of the cuts. A love song of sorts, with lyrics such as “you never have to tuck in your gut because i love like that ” sheer poetry folks!

For two days, May 15th and 16th, a powerful visual protest will take place in Downtown LA that will include artists from around the nation whose motive and works will combat the all-too-common abuse of power by America’s police forces.

The show expresses the voices of a generation of minority and marginalized communities being criminalized by this pathological social dynamic. This issue is not just an isolated problem only happening in a few large cities but is of nationwide epidemic levels. This event hopes to cast attention upon this injustice and advocate for reform.

This event is inspired by a recent art exhibition that took place in the San Francisco Bay Area that was in response to the murder of Oscar Grant by the Oakland police. The group of local artists displayed works with a common goal - to bring responsible public awareness to this volatile and heated issue. The LA event will include works by many of local political artists along with work from other talents from across the nation, live art, performance art, installations and other mediums.

Participating visual artists include:

FROM LOS ANGELES :
2 Cents, 2 Rabbits, Branded, Bob Motown, Contra, Skramble, John Carr, Karen Fiorito, Ritzy Periwinkle, The Hit + Run Crew, ABCNT, Brandy Flower, David Kietzman, Rory White, YEM, Mear One, Vyal and Robbie Conal

Recap: RE:GENERATIONS CD Release and Exhibit

I finally uploaded all my fotos from the month long   RE:GENERATIONS Nat King Cole CD/Exhibit   festivities back in March.

Before the public opening Capitol Records/Spin Mag/KCRW and others sponsored the CD release party. It was good timers and even with the alley open it was super duper packed. A very supreme night.

Here’s me, “mi osito”, Chaz and his wife Christina at the release party

A blurry foto of part of my fam bam at the release party. We were also celebrating the good news that Rebeca (the shortest one in the photo) is preggers with her second child!

with Carole Cole, the mastermind behind the entire project. A true visionary and advocate for the musicians and us visual artists on the project.

Check out more CD release party photos HERE and HERE.

Then the public opening was during the Downtown Artwalk.

This is Sophia.  Before I started working on the RE:GEN project I had seen her mom pregnant about to pop. I hadn’t met her yet due to my hermit status. I met her at the opening. She was already 5MONTHS OLD!!!

then the next weekend was the LACMA MUSE event for Muse memebers. There was music and spoken word from a variety of great peeps such as , Ted Lange (that’s right Isaac Washington from The Love Boat)

Mrs. Nichelle Nichols ( Lieutenant Uhura from Star Trek)

and look who was there supporting friends Miss O.G. Supreme herself Mary Wilson posing with Overton Loyd who drew her live on the spot.

more fotos of this night can be found HERE.

The Closing reception was a benefit with live painting.

Richard Montoya from Culture Clash was the Auctioneer and was nice enough to buy one of my pieces.

Natalie Cole stopped by to support before she hit up Prince at Nokia. She’s here with one of the live pieces I hit with one of my Nat stencils.

Gracias again to everyone involved and all my friends and fam that have supported me during the entire project.
